Headwaters Fly Fishing Company Stream Reports - Upper Mississippi River

Current Reports for Upper Mississippi River:
Select Year:

11/8/2021 - A low water season but the fishing was great!

Lowest water levels ever according to the records but the fishing was spectacular. The numbers of fish caught per day were the highest in many years and we have a good year of young fish, hatched from this year so the future looks excellent.

5/26/2021 - Season is open!!

Summer came early and the river is alive with surface feeding smallmouth bass! Warm afternoons are best for surface presentations and mornings are usually best-fished subsurface. A reminder; this is early and much earlier than normal that the fish are taking topwater.

3/8/2021 - Season closed on 2/28/21 opens in early May

the Saturday prior to the last day Sunday was a great day to be fishing the Upper Mississippi. I mean a very good day to be on the water. Warm with an upcoming snow storm and the fish were all on the feed and active. Pike were up shallow, close to spawning areas and when they were active it was crazy. Same as the smallmouth bass. A very good day to fish.

2/8/2021 - Very wintery fishing

Fishing has been slow recently with plenty of ice in the guides all day - need a big warm-up to fish the last few days of the season!!
