Headwaters Fly Fishing Company Stream Reports - Upper Mississippi River

Current Reports for Upper Mississippi River:
Select Year:

8/25/2018 - Upper Mississippi 8/2018

Best water level in years and best fishing all summer. Topwater poppers and divers are working well. Small leech patterns and sculpin imitations also catching fish if you want to fish subsurface

7/5/2018 - Upper Mississippi early July 2018 - John Edstrom

The river started off the summer in a low clear situation but a month of rain has raised the CFS and we are now holding around 11,500 Cubic Feet per Second. Fish are holding and feeding near the bank and some fish are always going to be caught out many feet from the bank in deeper water. Surface flies are working well as well as streamers and crayfish patterns.

3/24/2018 - Winter is giving up, but slowly.

Still have a closed season on the Upper Mississippi but we are closer to the opener each day! The waterfowl this time of year are spectacular in full plumage and the divers stop here in the Crow River each year. The sandhill cranes are just fantastic, such pre-historic sounding birds.

3/18/2018 - Upper Mississippi

May 12th is the catch and release opener for smallmouth and standard opener for northern pike in Minnesota! I will try to provide reports of water conditions of the Mississippi River and St Croix Rivers leading up to the opener.

Today:
Perfect water conditions with a slow snow melt. Season is closed.
